Signature Electric founder Mark Marmer recently joined Luke Merry, General Manager of Hart Pump, on The Hart Podcast to discuss the past, present, and future of the electrical industry.
Drawing on nearly 40 years of hands-on experience, Mark shares his perspective on the evolving role of electricians, the impending energy transformation, and why he believes the next decade will fundamentally reshape our industry.

The Work That Matters
For Mark, the electrical trade has always been about more than technical skill, it’s about tangible impact. In a world of abstract work, electricians solve real problems with visible results.
“You came in, the place was dark and two days later you flip a switch and the lights come on. You really do know what you’ve done… you feel a sense of accomplishment.”
That sense of purpose, he argues, is what draws people to the trades and what keeps them engaged for decades.
A Decentralized Energy Future
Perhaps the most compelling part of the conversation is Mark’s vision for where the industry is headed. He sees a fundamental shift underway, away from centralized power systems and toward a distributed model where homes and vehicles become active participants in the grid.
“These things are coming together. Solar on my roof, the battery in my house, the batteries in my car, being able to be connected and needed. This is almost here.”
It’s a future that demands new expertise from electricians and new thinking from property owners. At Signature Electric, we’re already helping clients navigate this transition with EV charging installations, solar integrations, and smart energy solutions.
